Summer 2013 Journey Part 7: Central Wyoming

The next morning: Casper behind us, not much in front.

That's par for the course in central Wyoming. I love it. Hell's Half Acre snuck up on me and we sailed past, something I regret a little.

Getting lunch ready at Boysen State Park (note Tater Tot under the table).

Moving along again, into the first of a tunnel trifecta.

Entering tunnel two, with tunnel three beyond. Note that big rock straining against the boulder netting at upper right, next to the beam.

The tunnels mark the Southern terminus of Wind River Canyon, about the most gorgeous canyon you'll ever drive through.

This big herd of sheep was just downstream of the canyon and just South of Thermopolis, where we stopped to swim.

Afterwards we dined at Thermopolis' huge public park.

Ludwig stood watch. (Behind him's the place where we went swimming.)

 "World's Largest Mineral Hot Springs"

Speaking of minerals, on the way out we drove past Tepee Fountain...totally weird. In the early 1900s someone stuck a pipe into the ground to try to control the output of a particular spring. Over a hundred years later, this is the result. It used to be kind of triangular, hence the name.

Bellies full, we departed Thermopolis to the Northwest toward Cody.

Light conducive to picture-taking left us before we got to Cody where, after a spot of DQ, we had just a little further to our stop for the night, Buffalo Bill State Park.
