Eight Thousand Eight Hundred Fifty-Nine

About mid-afternoon last Sunday, Ludwig's old elevation record of 8640 feet, which had stood since 2004, fell to a col in Yellowstone National Park, Dunraven Pass, 8859 feet above sea level. (The sign says 8859 ft and the park-issued map agrees; the USGS says 8878.02 feet. I'm going with the figure on the sign.) This is also the highest paved road in the park.

It was too rainy at the top for any good shots--and we didn't stop anyway (long evening of driving ahead)--but this one's from somewhere along the drive, after the rain let up.

Five thousand!? Ha! When Ludwig's sitting in the garage he's 9 feet above a mile. I kid, I kid. (I mean, it's true, but I'm not trying to make you feel bad about it.)
Thanks for the encouragement.

Alright,
Mitch.
